Position: Occupational Health Nurse (Plainfield, IN)

Overview

Provides Occupational Health and First Aid Case Management services at assigned Duke Energy locations. Services include assessing, planning, and delivering first aid care to all employees, focusing on preventing OSHA recordable events.

Responsibilities
  • Perform physical exams for regulatory compliance (Nuclear specific) and consult with local management to ensure case‑management process follows corporate directives.
  • Document all medical examinations, tests, consultations, and evaluations, and maintain confidential employee medical files in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Assess, plan, and deliver first‑aid care, provide basic life support, and determine appropriate treatment or referral for injuries and illnesses.
  • Schedule and conduct required physical exams and medical tests to meet NRC, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Screen employees for medical clearance, obtain physician concurrence when required, and refer those not medically cleared while preserving confidentiality.
  • Update the Duke Energy Workers’ Compensation Coordinator and vendor management regarding injuries referred off‑site.
  • Provide emergency first‑aid and case‑management support during outages, storm deployments, and other emergencies.
  • Travel to remote sites and support emergency deployments as needed (15‑25% travel, overnight duty possible).
  • Serve as a resource for employees on personal health issues, including EAP referrals and health‑wellness education.
  • Maintain accurate nursing logs and perform audits of medical records to ensure NRC regulation compliance.
  • Lead safety meetings, safety training, ergonomic evaluations, and Quick Fit stretching programs.
  • Communicate medical information to employees, management, legal staff, and off‑site facilities as authorized.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing plus two years’ experience as an Occupational Health Nurse or two years in a hospital setting.
  • Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  • Knowledge of ADA, FMLA, OSHA, WC laws, and the ability to make sound medical decisions in each area.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and handling confidential medical information.
  • Proficiency in computers, email, MS Word, MS Excel, and occupational health data programs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strong people skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN.
  • Knowledge of NRC regulations (Nuclear Specific).
  • Certification in Audiometric and Spirometry testing.
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN).
  • Experience with electronic occupational health data programs.
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

Basic duties are performed in a medical office; emergency work may be required during outages or storm deployments. Employees must be ready for interstate highway travel to remote sites to provide first‑aid case‑management. The role involves normal physical effort to conduct nurse assessments and medical testing. The primary schedule is day shift, with emergency call‑out duty on back‑shift, weekends, and outage response.

Travel is 15–25% of the time.
