Job DescriptionThe Operations Supervisor provides direction at a single location, leading staff to ensure customer requirements are achieved while meeting Penske goals and objectives.
Position Summary:
Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations with a focus on cost objectives and compliance. Supervise processes directly, manage performance, make corrective actions up to written warning, and involve in hiring and customer meetings.
Shift: Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Flexibility required around peak season, holidays, short staffing, and business needs.
Major Responsibilities- People:
- Establish and sustain training and competency for all supervisors and associates.
- Communicate performance standards clearly and measurably.
- Interview hourly associates and recommend hires.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance; provide coaching and counseling.
- Motivate and engage associates through team accomplishments and recognition.
- Operations:
- Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading/unloading, dispatch, and documentation.
- Recommend changes to improve dispatch productivity; assist in new associate training.
- Provide relief coverage when associates are absent.
- Maintain operational compliance and resolve exceptions in site operating systems.
- Complete records and reports timely and accurately.
- Finance:
- Ensure compliance with financial policies such as tracking MPG, returns, damages.
- Understand profitability impacts of decisions.
- Manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
- Safety:
- Align day‑to‑day operations with the location safety strategy.
- Communicate, train, and provide feedback to ensure safe performance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct safety observations.
- Growth/Customer
Experience:- Understand and exceed location‑specific customer goals and expectations.
- Communicate commitment to helping customers meet objectives.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Fleet/Assets:
- Plan work assignments for effective fleet usage.
- Ensure associates understand safe and efficient equipment operation.
- Coordinate with vendors and Penske Truck Leasing for maintenance.
- Complete preventive maintenance schedules.
- Demonstrated leadership with strong interpersonal skills; ability to connect, build rapport, and maintain relationships.
- Efficient, independent work with strong time‑management and organizational skills.
- Strong written and oral communication; active listening skills.
- Problem‑solving, critical thinking, and independent decision‑making.
- Drive process improvement and lead change.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ownership & responsibility to run the operation with urgency.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. - Regular, predictable, full attendance essential.
- Willingness to travel as needed, work required schedule, and complete background investigation and drug screening.
- Perform tasks such as reading, verbal/written communication, remembering and analyzing information.
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs (12 kg).
