The Queen City Academy Charter School is Plainfield, New Jersey's first charter school.

Elementary School Teacher

Position Overview

All teachers at The Queen City Academy Charter School advance the mission, goals and

educational philosophy of the school by planning and facilitating learning activities and

experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of

students, while enabling students to develop competencies, skills and disposition to

function successfully in society.

The General Elementary School Teacher should be able to:

● Plan and develop an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom,

adhering to educational best practices and state and school district curriculum

guidelines.

General Elementary School Teacher

● Design and present individual lesson plans and keys in one or more academic

subjects using a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to various learning

styles and methods.

● Prepare materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and

grades student performance.

● Discuss academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.

● Monitor student progress throughout the year and evaluate preparedness for high

school.

● Communicate all progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents

and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal.

● Build and sustain positive relationships with parents and families.

● Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.

● Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident

reports, and other necessary records.

● Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.

● Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities,

workshops, and other training seminars.

● Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in Elementary

grade education.

● Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations.

● Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold at minimum a Bachelor's degree and certification as

appropriate. The expectation is that all candidates hold at least a Certificate of Eligibility

and QCACS leadership can provide guidance on obtaining full certification in the State of

New Jersey. Candidates should be prepared to provide a copy of a valid New Jersey

Certificate or proof of passing the required PRAXIS tests. Applicants must demonstrate

cultural sensitivity, ability to communicate with parents and students across lines of

difference, have mastery of subject matter content, be a team player, hold high

expectations of students and possess basic understanding of child development.
