Position: Music Teacher (K-8)

K–8 Music Teacher Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture in which all students feel welcomed, respected, and inspired to explore, create, and express themselves through music.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families that demonstrate genuine care, encouragement, and high expectations for students’ musical, academic, and social-emotional growth.
  • Design and facilitate rigorous, student-centered music instruction aligned with state standards and UC TEAMS’s mission to develop well-rounded, innovative thinkers.
  • Plan and implement differentiated music instruction that meets the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with special education services, multilingual learners, students receiving academic interventions, and students who are accelerated.
  • Provide engaging instruction across multiple areas of music education, including singing, rhythm, movement, listening, basic music theory, and instrumental exploration, as developmentally appropriate for grades K–8.
  • Assess and analyze student learning through performances, projects, and formative assessments to inform instruction and support individual musical growth.
  • Foster and promote UC TEAMS values to ensure a positive, caring, responsive, and safe music classroom environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and confidence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and key stakeholders within the school’s professional learning structure to support arts integration and whole-child development.
  • Plan, rehearse, and coordinate a spring music performance that showcases student learning and celebrates student achievement for families and the school community.
  • Support school events and performances as needed to strengthen school culture and community engagement.
  • Arrive at school each day by 7:30 a.m. and leave no earlier than 3:45 p.m.
Qualifications
  • NJ Teacher Certification or Certificate of Eligibility in Music Education is required
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students across grade levels and abilities
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to maintain an organized, engaging, and safe learning environment
  • Self-reflective, analytical problem‑solver committed to continual learning and professional growth
  • Openness to feedback and a collaborative spirit
  • Unwavering commitment to excellence, equity, and student success—even in the face of challenges
