Teacher of Multilingual Learners (ML) Responsibilities
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture in which all students feel welcomed, valued, and respected; build strong relationships with students and families that demonstrate genuine care, encouragement, and a commitment to student success.
- Design and facilitate rigorous, student-centered English language development instruction aligned with WIDA Standards, New Jersey Student Learning Standards, and the mission of UC TEAMS Charter School.
- Plan and implement differentiated instruction to support multilingual learners in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while accessing grade-level content.
- Provide direct English language development instruction through whole-group, small-group, and individual learning experiences that promote language acquisition and academic achievement.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, interventionists, special education staff, and school leaders to ensure multilingual learners receive appropriate supports and equitable access to instruction across content areas.
- Use student achievement data, language proficiency data, classroom assessments, and progress monitoring tools to inform instruction, develop targeted interventions, and accelerate student growth.
- Administer and support state-required assessments, including WIDA ACCESS for ELLs and WIDA Screener, and maintain accurate records related to the identification, placement, progress monitoring, and language proficiency of multilingual learners.
- Assist in the identification, placement, reclassification, and monitoring of multilingual learners in accordance with state and federal requirements.
- Foster and promote UC TEAMS values to ensure a positive, caring, responsive, and safe learning environment that celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Collaborate with colleagues and key stakeholders within the school’s professional learning structures, including but not limited to Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), coaching cycles, and professional development opportunities to develop best practices and improve outcomes for multilingual learners.
- Develop relationships and strengthen partnerships with families through persistent communication, conferences, family events, and collaboration regarding student progress and language development.
- Support the development of culturally responsive instructional practices and contribute to a school culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Arrive at school each day by 7:30 a.m. and leave no earlier than 3:45 p.m.;
Mondays 4:45 p.m.
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL) certification required.
- New Jersey instructional certificate or Certificate of Eligibility required.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Bilingual certification preferred but not required.
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations preferred.
- Knowledge of WIDA Standards, ACCESS for ELLs, WIDA Screener, and New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
- Demonstrated ability to use student achievement and language proficiency data to inform instruction and support student growth.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community stakeholders.
- Self-reflective and analytical problem solver.
- Openness to feedback and desire to continually learn.
