Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Principal Engineer (Semiconductor Fabrication) - Data Center Hardware Leader

Principal Process Engineer, InP Laser Fabrication

Own the processes that turn compound semiconductor science into production reality.

We are looking for a senior level process engineering leader to drive critical engineering programs inside an advanced Indium Phosphide buried heterostructure (InP BH) laser fabrication environment. This role is built for someone who loves the factory floor as much as the data, and who can move seamlessly between process development, yield recovery, metrology strategy, and equipment qualification.

You will lead high impact efforts that directly influence manufacturability, performance, and production stability for next generation photonic and optoelectronic products. If you thrive in complex process stacks, enjoy solving hard yield problems, and want to be a technical anchor for a fab team, this role is designed for you.

What You Will Own Process Development for New Laser Products
  • Design, execute, and analyze structured experiments to develop and optimize critical fabrication steps, including photolithography, chemical etching, and thin film deposition.
  • Translate early development work into production ready process specifications, controls, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead process qualification efforts and establish readiness for volume manufacturing.
Metrology Strategy and Process Control
  • Develop metrology approaches that enable accurate monitoring of key process parameters and device critical dimensions.
  • Implement measurement methods using tools such as SEM, EDS, and other analytical techniques relevant to compound semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Drive process stability improvements, reducing variation and improving repeatability across lots and shifts.
Yield Improvement and Cross Functional Correlation
  • Partner with product and device engineers to connect in process data to final device performance and yield.
  • Identify the highest leverage yield limiters across the process flow and lead focused improvement initiatives.
  • Use statistical and engineering judgment to isolate critical steps, tighten controls, and improve overall yield trends.
Production Troubleshooting and Root Cause Leadership
  • Act as the escalation point for complex production issues, rapidly diagnosing failures and stabilizing the line.
  • Lead structured root cause investigations and develop corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
  • Balance speed and rigor, ensuring fixes are effective, documented, and scalable.
Equipment Enablement and Tool Qualification
  • Work closely with equipment engineering teams to maintain, tune, and optimize process tools supporting critical steps.
  • Support selection of new equipment and provide technical leadership on tool capability evaluation.
  • Own the process development, integration, and qualification plans for newly installed equipment.
Documentation, Training, and Technical Leadership
  • Create clear work instructions, process documentation, and qualification reports that enable consistent execution.
  • Mentor junior engineers through best practices in process development, troubleshooting, and fab discipline.
  • Train technicians and production teams on process intent, controls, and measurement standards.
What We Are Looking For
  • Master’s degree or PhD preferred in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Eight or more years of hands on experience in a semiconductor fabrication environment. This is a hard requirement.
  • Deep technical understanding of semiconductor process modules and metrology, including photolithography, chemical etch, film deposition, SEM, EDS, and related characterization methods.
  • A demonstrated history of delivering stable processes, improving yield, and sustaining manufacturing performance over time.
  • Experience writing and maintaining clear work instructions and process specifications for production environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence cross functional teams and develop talent.
Why This Role Is Different

This is not a narrow module ownership role. You will be a technical leader shaping the manufacturing backbone for high performance InP BH laser products. Your work will directly impact production success, device performance, and the scalability of advanced photonic technologies.
