MFS is seeking a driven, career-minded individual to fill the position of Structural Senior Engineer in the Structural Division of our dynamic, multi-disciplined civil engineering and land surveying firm. RoleThe successful Structural Senior Engineer candidate will lead structural engineering projects and work with a team of structural engineers in his/her group. The Structural Senior Engineer shall be able to perform structural engineering assessments and develop investigation reports, prepare final construction drawings and structural detailing, structural calculations, and technical specifications working under the supervision of the Structural Project Manager and Principal Engineer.
The Structural Senior Engineer’s duties include leading the development of structural designs from concept, schematic, to final design, and throughout the construction phase. In addition, The Structural Senior Engineer shall review project profitability and project billing and assist in proposal development.
The structural designs include buildings, bridges, ancillary structures, and site structural elements. Additionally, the Structural Senior Engineer will be required to supervise the performance of periodic or continuous special inspections during construction, as well perform structural investigations or assessments of existing structures. This position will work within a divisional team comprised of a Structural Project Manager, CAD Operator and Structural Engineers.
The candidate will be responsible for supervising and training entry and junior level engineering staff.
This position requires in-person work primarily out of South Plainfield, NJ office (Headquarters).
Responsibilities- Responsible for leading Structural engineering projects
- Supervise Structural engineers within their group
- Perform Structural engineering assessments and develop investigation reports under the supervision of the Structural Project Manager and Principal Engineer
- Supervise and prepare final Structural construction drawings and structural detailing, structural calculations, and technical specifications
- Prepare Structural calculations and technical specifications
- Lead the development of structural designs from concept, schematic, to final design, and throughout the construction phase
- Review project profitability and project billing and assist in proposal development
- Prepare design development drawings and final construction documents including specifications
- Prepare structural analysis models and perform structural designs
- Perform structural assessments and investigations
- Performs QA/QC and engineering review
- Review project budgets and project profitability
- Review RFP and assist in developing proposal scope of work and fee
- Mentor and train structural engineering staff
- B.S. in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer license in the State of New Jersey and/or State of New York.
- Requires minimum of 10 years of professional structural engineering design experience in analysis of underground and above ground site structural systems including drainage structures, pump stations, equipment dunnage structures, low-rise buildings, shallow and deep foundations and permanent earth retaining structures, temporary structural systems, rehabilitation and renovation projects, construction and value engineering support.
- Requires field experience with conducting structural special inspections and performing structural evaluations/investigations of historic buildings, waterfront structures, office/warehouse buildings, and commercial facilities.
- Must have design experience with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design.
- Must have a working knowledge of all federal design codes and ordinances governing the design of structures including but not limited to the NYC Building Code, International Building Code, etc.
- Must have design experience in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Must have knowledge in using RISA 2D/3D software or similar structural engineering analysis software.
- Must have strong technical writing skills.
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing with attention to detail.
