South Plainfield Parts Specialist

Fire & Safety Services is looking for a motivated, dependable mechanic for our South Plainfield location.

• Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic working heavy-duty trucks, heavy equipment, or diesel-powered vehicles
  .
• Strong knowledge of diagnostics and repair of electrical systems
  , including electronic engine management systems.
• Experience with air brake systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, driveline, and PTO systems
  .
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures.
• Proficient in the use of diagnostic software, scan tools, and computerized service information.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and technical service manuals.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record;
  CDL (Class B or
  
  A) preferred or ability to obtain.
• Own a complete set of hand tools appropriate for heavy-duty vehicle repair.
• Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs. and perform physical duties associated with heavy equipment repair.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Experience specifically servicing fire apparatus (pumpers, aerials, rescues, tankers, and specialty vehicles).
• Willing to continue education certifications is strongly desired for this role.
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications (T-Series)
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Manufacturer certifications (Pierce, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Allison, Hale, Waterous, etc.)
    • Mechanics with existing ASE and EVT certifications are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Experience with aerial devices, fire pumps, foam systems, and multiplex electrical systems.
• Knowledge of NFPA 1911 standards for inspection, maintenance, testing, and retirement of in-service fire apparatus.
