Summary

Welsbach Electric Corp. of L.I. is seeking an Accounting Clerk/Payroll Administrator who will be responsible for assisting accounting with the quick and efficient processing of payroll and accounting clerk duties. The ideal candidate must have strong analytical thinking skills, an attention to detail, and most importantly, the ability to retain confidential information. Excellent interpersonal skills, pleasant phone manners, efficient typing ability (data entry), and familiarity with payroll software.

Range

$60,000/year - $70,000/year, Full Time, Non-Exempt, On site

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of weekly union payroll.
  • Review time sheets, work charts, wage computation, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies.
  • Review, correct and enter time sheets into database and payroll software for multiple union employees on a weekly basis; payroll is in-house and may include printing and distribution of checks.
  • Process certified payrolls accurately on a weekly basis adhering to Department of Labor guidelines.
  • Process weekly submissions for union benefits, maintain awareness and adherence to union contracts.
  • Familiarity with different union fringes and benefits for processing purposes.
  • Generate and distribute necessary reports internally and externally.
  • Gather documentation for company audits on a timely basis.
  • Process and mail weekly union and payroll checks.
  • Assist Human Resources with employee verifications and scanning of employee personnel files pursuant to legal requests.
  • Prepare weekly labor production reports.
  • Light dispatching.
  • Additional assistance as needed with AR/AP data entry and processing, ad hoc accounting.
  • General department administrative aid organizing/filing/processing reports and paperwork
  • Assist Accounting Supervisor with departmental projects as needed.
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality of company information.
  • Comply with Company established policies and procedures.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Accounting Supervisor with recommendation for resolution.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the company or as directed by management.

PREFERRED

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Note:

Experience Preferred but Not Required

  • 2 - 5 years working in a payroll capacity, preferably with other electrical construction or union contractors.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or currently pursuing preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the construction industry, operations management, and safety practices a plus.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines.
