Sr Electrical Engineer

The Sr Electrical Engineer leads the electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process and semiconductor capital equipment-from initial concept through manufacturing release. This role is responsible for translating customer, product, and regulatory requirements into robust electrical specifications, and delivering high-quality schematics, assemblies, and documentation. Systems include power supplies, motion systems, robotics, sensors, and control hardware. The engineer serves as a technical leader-resolving advanced system-level issues, guiding design reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure seamless system integration, build, and installation.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Architecture

+ Lead electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process and electro-mechanical capital equipment from concept through manufacturing release

+ Translate customer, product, and regulatory requirements into clear electrical specifications balancing performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability

+ Design, develop, and release:

+ Electrical schematics

+ Assemblies and layouts

+ System documentation

+ Integrate systems including power supplies, motion systems, robotics, sensors, PLCs, and control hardware

+ Own high-voltage electrical design (primarily digitally controlled), ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation

+ Develop PLC control cabinet designs and ensure proper integration with industrial machinery and motion systems

Testing, Debugging & Problem Solving

+ Resolve advanced electrical and system-level issues across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems using structured root cause analysis

+ Plan, execute, and document electrical tests and design of experiments (DOE)

+ Analyze data and translate findings into actionable engineering improvements

+ Debug complex analog and digital circuits using:

+ Oscilloscopes

+ Logic analyzers

+ Component-level analysis techniques

Compliance & Quality

+ Ensure designs meet CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements

+ Apply design-for-compliance best practices

+ Address component and design obsolescence, updating systems for long-term product sustainment

+ Drive improvements in design quality, consistency, and documentation standards

Leadership & Collaboration

+ Lead technical direction during design reviews and provide constructive feedback

+ Mentor junior engineers in:

+ Electrical design

+ Testing methodologies

+ Documentation practices

+ Problem-solving approaches

+ Collaborate with:

+ Mechanical Engineering

+ Software Engineering

+ Manufacturing

+ Supply Chain

+ Field Service teams

+ Ensure seamless system integration, build, installation, and serviceability

+ Produce clear documentation and presentations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Continuous Improvement

+ Support the evolution of electrical design processes, tools, and standards

+ Contribute to best practices for industrial and semiconductor process equipment

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering + 8+ years of capital equipment design experience

+ OR

+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering + 6+ years of capital equipment design experience

Technical Expertise

+ Proven ownership of electrical design for complex electro-mechanical systems

+

Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical CAD tools

+ Advanced expertise in:

+ Analog and digital circuit design

+ Schematic development and release processes

+ Hands-on debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and component-level techniques

+ Experience integrating:

+ Power supplies

+ Motion controllers

+ PLCs

+ Electrical interfaces into industrial or semiconductor systems

Systems & Industry Knowledge

+ Industrial machinery design experience, including motion control integration

+ High-voltage electrical design experience (primarily digitally controlled systems)

+ PLC control cabinet design experience

+ Working knowledge of:

+ Vacuum equipment

+ Robotics

+ Motion control systems

+ Familiarity with CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements
