Optum NY is seeking a Medical Assistant – Pediatric Ophthalmology to join our team in Plainview, NY. Optum is a clinician‑led care organization that is changing the way clinicians work and live.
The Medical Assistant works to assist clinicians in providing health care at clinic locations. A Medical Assistant serves the patient and all members of the health care team by gathering and maintaining the necessary medical information in a cheerful, friendly, personable manner. This role provides quality patient care and helps to establish rapport between the clinician and patient.

Hours:
37.5 hours per week
- Monday – Thursday shifts 8am‑4pm, 9am‑5pm, 10am‑6pm, and 12pm‑8pm. Two nights a week
- Friday and Saturday shifts 8am‑4pm. Two Saturdays a month
- Obtains patient histories and vital signs and records them accurately in the electronic medical record
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment and documents chief complaints
- Assists in other specialties as necessary
- Retrieves laboratory and radiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications and treatment per clinician's instructions
- Stocks supplies and prepares exam rooms and instruments for examinations, testing, or minor surgeries
- Responds to incoming phone calls and refers if necessary; calls patients as needed to follow up or schedule appointments
- Obtains prior authorizations as necessary
- Assists with other specialties within the suite as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned

Years of post‑high school education may be substituted for or is equivalent to years of experience.
Required Qualifications- Experience in a medical office setting
- Experience with PC and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work until 8pm, two nights a week plus two Saturdays a month
- Medical Assistant certification
- 1+ years of experience working as a Medical Assistant performing front‑ and back‑office duties
- Experience working with EPIC EMR software
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $29.00 per hour based on full‑time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
