As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities in their daily lives. You will work closely with them, assisting with daily living activities, fostering their independence, promoting their well-being, and helping them connect with their communities. This is a truly rewarding opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a tangible difference. This position requires a valid NYS Driver's License for 18+ months with a clean driving history and successful completion of Brightway Living & Learning Transportation Orientation.
WhatYou Bring to Brightway Living & Learning:
- Complete required training in a timely fashion.
- Demonstrate knowledge of abuse reporting and procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings and in services as required.
- Remain on premises and available to respond to house specific needs as necessary. In the event of a behavioral, medical, or other emergency situation, the Overnight Asleep Counselor must be prepared to transition to a Community Instructor Awake in the following tasks:
- Actively complete overnight responsibilities as per individualized protocols as necessary.
- Advocate for individuals’ needs.
- Complete overnight bed checks according to time intervals specified by person as necessary.
- Complete overnight documentation, i.e., chore chart, incident reports, SUB sheets, logs, staff communication book, AMAP communication book.
- Follows BSP’s and supervision requirements for each individual.
- Ensures proper implementation of Emergency Procedures (i.e. Incident reporting – notification of nurse due to medical situation etc.)
- Implement Fire Evacuation Procedures as needed
- Provide individualized support with personal care, meal preparation, transportation, and community outings.
- Foster independence by helping individuals develop life skills and make choices.
- Promote social inclusion by supporting participation in community activities.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating empathy and patience.
- Collaborate effectively with a supportive team of DSPs, supervisors, and families.
- Have the ability to relocate items weighing up to 20 pounds as necessary to secure the safety of the adults.
- Have the ability to kneel, twist, and bend (i.e. assist tying shoes, assist picking up items from the floor, etc.)
- Have the ability to perform all physical SCIP techniques as applicable.
