Job Description:
Special Education Teacher - Plainville High School
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Special Services Administrators, the successful candidate for this position demonstrates the capacity to meet the needs of students with disabilities with a range of academic and social/emotional/behavioral needs. The teacher will develop and effectively implement IEPs, align and modify curriculum, monitor student progress, and collaborate with school staff and parents to ensure every student's success.
This candidate will support students in proactively implementing academic, problem-solving and social skills, self-regulation strategies, and engaging in positive peer interactions.
Essential Functions:
* Conducts standardized, progress monitoring, and diagnostic assessments.
* Demonstrates an ability to utilize data effectively to develop programming for students in receipt of special education services.
* Participates in PPTs and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
* Clearly articulates evaluation results with students and families orally and in writing.
* Demonstrates an ability to utilize data to support programmatic recommendations and decisions.
* Demonstrates a clear understanding of special education law.
* Assists students and teaching staff in the implementation of students' IEPs and behavior support plans.
* Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, as needed.
* Collaborates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs.
* Communicates effectively with students, staff, and families regarding special education services and programming.
* Participates in professional development and PLC opportunities to enhance professional practice and growth.
* Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
* Actively facilitates parental involvement in students' education
* Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Principal, Special Services Administrators, or as designated by the Superintendent.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
* Knowledge of Special Education law, intervention, supports and research-based methods designed to meet the needs of students in receipt of special education and related services.
* Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
* Ability to utilize digital tools and structures to support instruction and manage programs.
* Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.
Education/Certification/License:
* Degree from an accredited college or university.
* #165 Certification in CT:
Comprehensive Special Education, K-12.
* Candidates who have relevant experience and are eligible for Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP) certification will be considered
Consideration shall be given to those teachers who have expressed a desire to be transferred to a vacant position pursuant to Subsection A (2), above. The administration shall give careful consideration to internal applicants and shall guarantee said applicants an interview. Positions shall be posted for at least seven days internally before advertising externally.
