Summary:
Repairs and maintains industrial trucks with diesel engines in accordance with dealership and manufacturer specifications.
Essential Functions
Performs the work indicated on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and manufacturer standards. Diagnoses the cause of any malfunction and performs the repair. Communicates with the parts department to obtain necessary parts. Stores and labels parts from the work if under warranty or if requested by the customer. Examines the assigned vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required or recommended.
Communicates immediately with the service advisor and foreman if additional work is needed, if the indicated work is not necessary, or if the repairs cannot be completed within the promised time. Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order. Conducts test drives of vehicles when necessary. Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events. Keeps up to date with manufacturer technical bulletins.
Supervises the work of any apprentice technicians assigned to them. Reports any defects or malfunctions of machinery to the foreman. Ensures that the customer’s vehicle is kept clean. Notifies the service advisor/foreman immediately of anything that has occurred that changes the appearance or condition of the vehicle. Keeps the shop area orderly and clean. Maintains and is responsible for all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
Returns them to the proper location and in the same condition as received. Understands, stays current with, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Operates all tools and equipment safely. Reports any safety issues immediately to management. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
Two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Medium/Heavy Truck Brake Certification – Preferred Diesel Engine Certification for Medium/Heavy Trucks – Preferred Driveline Certification for Eaton and Meritor – Preferred Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification for Medium/Heavy Trucks – Preferred Commercial Truck Heating and Air Conditioning Certification – Preferred Automobile/Light Truck Manual Driveline and Axle Certification – Preferred State Emissions Certification – Preferred State Vehicle Inspector Certification – Preferred Paccar MX Certification – Preferred Cummins Engine Certification in ISB, ISC, and ISX 2150 to 2350 – Preferred Medium/Heavy Truck Suspension and Steering Certification – Preferred
Manufacturer Training – Preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or industry regulations.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide in units of hundreds, tens, and ones. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in terms of whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read a multimeter.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions.
