Position Description

The Modern Worship Leader is a part-time (10 hours a week) position. This person oversees and provides spiritual and musical leadership for the Modern Worship Band at FUMC Plano. In collaboration with the Director of Worship Arts and Worship Planning Team the Modern Worship Leader plans and manages all musical components of modern worship including but not limited to, selection and arranging of music, developing and training volunteers for the Worship Band, assisting in the weekly planning process and working collaboratively in a team setting.

In addition to leading worship, the Modern Worship Leader is responsible for casting vision around creative expression in the worship experience. This person works closely with the Director of Worship Arts as we create a Modern/Blended Service that includes the incorporation of our youth choir. Ideally this person would be able to lead a song along with playing acoustic guitar.

In a part time position this person will also be responsible for:

• Youth and/or young adult discipleship
• Small group development

All of these additional responsibilities fall under our vision to “connect God and grace to self and community.”

Music Assistant Responsibilities (up to 10 hours a week) would include leading the children’s choir on Sunday mornings, assisting with the youth band on Sunday afternoons and singing with the Chancel Choir acting as a section leader on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings with traditional worship.

Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Worship Arts.

Major Responsibilities

• Coordinate music selections to anchor the modern worship experience.
• Recruit, develop, and schedule members of the Modern Worship Team – both adults and youth, both paid and volunteer.
• Provide leadership for the modernworship service and rehearsal.
• Research and secure appropriate copyright licenses.
• A working understanding of Wesleyan theology and demonstrated song selection that reflects the same.understanding of Wesleyan theology and demonstrated song selection that reflects the same.
• Work with the Director of Worship Arts to lead the Modern/Blended Service. Primary hours would be on Sunday mornings with planning and preparation during the week.
• Directing the children’s choir; will be responsible for recruiting, rehearsing and developing the children’s choir along with singing in worship on occasion.
• Assisting the youth band on Sunday afternoons.
