Recreation Aide (Temporary – 20 Hours)
Location: Jack Carter Pool
Schedule: Part‑Time
Employment Type: Temporary
Hourly Salary: $14.039097 – $19.654736
Primary responsibilities include:
- Provides outstanding customer service.
- Provides information regarding recreation facilities, programs, events, and memberships.
- Assists in monitoring and enforcing policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Registers patrons for recreation programs and memberships; advises patrons of available programs and services; verifies membership status.
- Takes money for programs, memberships, reservations, and point of sale items.
- Prepares rooms for program activities, meetings, and events.
- Participates in cleaning equipment and facilities; restocks and maintains the organization of merchandise for sale.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Our Recreation Aides are the front line of our facilities. We seek a highly motivated individual with a positive attitude who can provide above and beyond customer service, demonstrate professionalism, possess strong knowledge of the City of Plano, and have excellent phone, communication, and computer skills.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of: Parks and recreation policies and procedures; safety regulations policies and practices; conflict resolution methods.
Skills in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; completing basic mathematical calculations; interacting tactfully and professionally with the public and parks and recreation patrons.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of previous customer service experience. Any work‑related experience that demonstrates proficiency in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and
Certifications:
None required; ability to obtain CPR/AED certification within six months of employment.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access to Police buildings), and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working ConditionsWork is performed throughout recreation facilities, standing in work areas and walking between work areas. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull.
Employees may be required to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees work in a public center environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
