Library Services Representative I (20 hours) – Job
Location:
Libraries (Plano, Texas). Full/Part Time:
Part-Time. Regular/Temporary:
Regular.
Under close supervision the Library Services Representative I provides support to the library staff and patrons. Performs circulation, customer service, and shelving activities.
Responsibilities- Engage community by delivering excellent customer service: sign up members for library cards, share information about services, and meet diverse community through outreach events.
- Assist patrons with basic questions about library online resources, computers, and other technology.
- Locate library materials (books, movies, STEAM kits, etc.) and manage materials physically.
- Present or assist with outcome‑based programs, classes, and activities for children, families, and adults.
- Support collaborative spaces for the community.
- Assist patrons with self‑service check‑in, check‑out, and fine payment.
- Check out and in library books and materials; replace materials on shelves in correct order.
- Process patron library card applications.
- Collect and record fine and fee payments according to City and library policies.
- Answer basic technical and directional questions under librarian supervision.
- Maintain and monitor public computer equipment; assist patrons with equipment use.
- Respond to patron inquiries via telephone or in person using exceptional customer‑service skills.
- May participate in library’s online presence on blogs and social media.
- May assist with library classes and programs.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance for assigned schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of: library functions and procedures; library cataloging systems; social media and blogging; standard office and presentation software; customer service etiquette.
- Skill in: communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; working with the public.
- Education: high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: some previous customer service experience preferred.
- Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the specified education and experience requirements.

none. - Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access to Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Work throughout the library, standing, walking between areas; require finger dexterity, vision to read printed materials and screens, hearing and speech. Regularly bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers. Lift/carry up to 30 pounds (or heavier with equipment). Work in office environment with moderate noise, controlled temperature, dust/mites exposure. May interact with upset staff and public.
