Plano Parks and Recreation is looking for Adapted Recreation Aides. Below is a listing of the primary job responsibilities:

  • Assists instructors with developing, preparing, and setting up class and program activities.
  • Verifies that instructors have all materials for activities.
  • Assists patrons with participating in and completing program activities.
  • Participates in classroom clean up.
  • Reports any concerns regarding classes, instructors, and participants to appropriate supervisor.

What We Are Looking For

Our Adapted Recreation Aides are critical to the success of our programs. They help create an environment where the participants feel safe, welcome, and belong. Adapted Recreation employees must have knowledge regarding behaviors of children and adults with special needs. Qualities we are looking for include passion, patience, creativity, and support and encouragement of people with all abilities. We are also looking for those who can assist participants in a kind manner and are able to maintain the wellbeing of the participants at all times.

Summary of Duties: Under close supervision, the Adapted Recreation Aide assists in the implementation and coordination of recreation classes, programs, trips and special events for individuals with special needs.

Examples Of Essential Job Functions

Management reserves the rights to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Assists instructors with developing, preparing, and setting up class and program activities.
  • Verifies that instructors have all materials for activities to include attendance sheets and participant forms.
  • Assists patrons with participating in and completing program activities.
  • Participates in classroom clean up.
  • Reports any concerns regarding classes, instructors, and participants to appropriate supervisor.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of: Behaviors of special needs children and adults; department policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; interacting with people of all ages and ability levels.

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Experience: Some previous experience working with children and adults with special needs preferred.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Certifications:

None.

Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
