Job Summary

The Applied Social and Cultural Sciences Department which houses the Criminology and Criminal Justice Bachelor of Arts at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio is seeking an Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice to begin August 2026. The Criminology and Criminal Justice Program is very student-centered, one of the largest programs at OLLU, and continues to grow.

All faculty in the Applied Social and Cultural Sciences Department serve in the community and conduct innovative, high-impact applied research.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching:
    The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, interactive video, and online formats.
  • Advising:
    Provide academic guidance and mentorship to undergraduate students, assisting them in their academic and career aspirations within the program.
  • Research:
    Engage in innovative and impactful applied research in the field of Criminology and Criminal Justice. We encourage candidates to explore areas related to social justice, race, and ethnicity in the United States within the context of criminal justice.
  • Community Engagement:
    Actively participate in the criminal justice community, fostering collaborations, partnerships, and networking opportunities that benefit both students and the department.
  • Student Recruitment:
    Contribute to the growth of the program by assisting in student recruitment efforts, showcasing the benefits of the Criminology and Criminal Justice program at OLLU.
  • Experiential Learning:
    Develop and coordinate experiential learning opportunities for students, facilitating their engagement with real-world applications of Criminology and Criminal Justice concepts.
Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field is required by the time of appointment.
  • A strong commitment to student-centered education and a track record of effective teaching and mentorship.
  • A demonstrated capacity for innovative research and contributions to the field, with a preference for those exploring social justice or race and ethnicity in the context of criminal justice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and the broader community.
  • A passion for advancing the mission and values of Our Lady of the Lake University, including a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
