Library Services Representative I (20 hours)
At the City of Plano, our culture is grounded in service, teamwork, and making a meaningful impact. Our SERVE values—Stewardship, Engaged, Respectful, Visionary, and Excellence—guide how we work, while our A.P.R.O. principles—Adaptable, Professional, Relationship-Focused, and Outcome-Based—reflect who we are at our core.
This is an organization where you can grow, contribute, and be part of something bigger than yourself. That’s why our guiding principle is simple and clear: SERVE Like a Pro—it’s in our DNA.
In this active, customer service-focused position, Library Services Representatives (LSRs) spend much of their time engaged with library patrons at our five library locations. Examples of ways LSRs serve the Plano community include:
- Engaging our community by delivering excellent customer service by signing community members up for a library card, sharing information about the many services available through the library, and meeting our diverse community through various outreach events.
- Enriching lives by assisting library patrons with basic questions about library online resources, computers, and other library technology, assisting patrons with locating library materials including books, movies, STEAM kits, and more, and by helping to physically manage the library’s materials.
- Educating minds by presenting or assisting with library outcome-based programs, classes, and activities for children, families, and adults, providing passive learning opportunities for library patrons, and by supporting collaborative spaces for the community.
Libraries are open 69 hours per week to provide library access to the community.
To support this level of service, in addition to day shifts, all LSRs will work some nights and weekends.
- Part time LSRs work two nights per week and two weekends per month.
As a valued Team Plano member, you will receive numerous benefits:
- Regular, part-time, 20+ hours per week; eligible for vacation accrual based on hours worked.
- Regular, part-time, 20+ hours per week; vacation accrual at .0923 hours per hour worked.
- Membership in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS), in which the City matches contributions 2:1 upon retirement
