About the RoleBase Electron is seeking an experienced Senior Director, Business Development and M&A – Power Generation to lead the sourcing, evaluation, and early-stage structuring of power generation acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
This role will focus on identifying operating and development-stage generation assets that can support the rapid growth of data centers and other large electrical loads. The successful candidate will pursue opportunities that can accelerate grid interconnection, provide near-term power solutions, generate early cash flow, and support Base Electron’s long‑term generation growth strategy.
The Senior Director will evaluate opportunities based on asset quality, market position, interconnection rights, regulatory environment, commercial structure, expansion potential, and risk‑adjusted returns rather than a preference for any single fuel type or technology.
The opportunity set may include natural gas, nuclear, renewable generation, hydroelectric facilities, battery energy storage, hybrid projects, and other commercially viable generation technologies.
Key Responsibilities Business Development and Deal Origination- Proactively identify, source, and cultivate acquisition, investment, joint venture, development, and strategic partnership opportunities across the power generation sector.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of operating plants, development‑stage projects, project companies, and related energy infrastructure.
- Identify generation assets located near existing or planned data center campuses, substations, transmission infrastructure, fuel supply, and areas experiencing significant large‑load growth.
- Source opportunities that may provide near‑term capacity, energy, interconnection access, or cash flow while longer‑term generation projects are developed.
- Evaluate opportunities to acquire, repower, restart, expand, contract, or reposition existing generation assets to serve data center customers.
- Originate opportunities across multiple generation technologies without being limited to a single fuel type.
- Monitor regional power markets, capacity auctions, transmission constraints, interconnection queues, fuel markets, PPAs, regulatory developments, and data center load growth.
- Identify markets where existing generation and transmission infrastructure may allow additional electrical load to be interconnected more quickly.
- Assess wholesale and retail power market dynamics, capacity accreditation, congestion, basis risk, environmental requirements, and potential changes in market rules.
- Develop origination strategies by market, asset type, counter party, and customer demand profile.
- Provide senior leadership with actionable market intelligence regarding generation asset availability, transaction activity, pricing, and competitive positioning.
- Build and maintain relationships with independent power producers, utilities, generation owners, developers, infrastructure funds, private equity sponsors, investment banks, brokers, advisors, equipment suppliers, and data center operators.
- Establish Base Electron as a credible and responsive buyer, investor, and strategic partner in the power generation market.
- Maintain an active network of proprietary and intermediated deal sources.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, market forums, and networking events.
- Develop relationships that generate off‑market and early‑stage acquisition opportunities.
- Conduct preliminary financial, commercial, operational, and strategic analysis of prospective opportunities.
- Evaluate asset condition, operating history, market position, interconnection rights, fuel supply, environmental obligations, contractual arrangements, and expansion potential.
