As a Lead Power Electronics Engineer – Magnetics, you will be responsible for magnetics design of power supply products for datacenter, industrial and telecommunication applications. You will own the magnetics from concept, simulation, test, qualification and release to mass production. The projects will include New Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), Direct Material Productivity (DMP), resolving customer issues, and sustaining existing products.
Reporting to the R&D/ Senior Technical Manager, this position will be expected to demonstrate leadership globally.
- Lead high frequency magnetics design for AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies, with focus on power density, cost and efficiency
- Collaborate with electrical hardware, thermal and mechanical teams to design magnetics to meet overall power supply performance requirements
- Conduct simulations using ANSYS to provide multiple options at early stages of the product design for a tradeoff analysis
- Work with suppliers to develop production grade magnetics by suggesting to them the optimal options for cores, conductors and insulators
- Consult safety engineer to ensure the magnetics design meets electrical safety standards
- Develop laboratory prototypes and test them
- Provide support to qualification team before launching mass production
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect intellectual property
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics or equivalent from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 7 years of hands‑on magnetics design experience, with focus on power electronics applications
- Solid knowledge of core materials, litz‑wires, foil and PCB winding technology
- Experience in using EM simulation tools like ANSYS Maxwell
- M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics preferred
- Experience in designing magnetics for high frequency SiC/ GaN power converters
- Knowledge of UL and CE electrical safety requirements for magnetic components
- Solid understanding of thermal, mechanical and packaging techniques and associated challenges related to magnetics
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to drive projects to completion
