Manufacturing & Supplier Quality Engineer

Airbus DS Government Solutions, Inc. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing & Supplier Quality Engineer to support the procurement and production of advanced satellite communication systems and subsystems. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring supplier and product quality, developing and optimizing manufacturing processes and workmanship standards, and driving continuous improvement across the production floor.

Airbus DSGS Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) ensures that external suppliers provide materials meeting company specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The SQE is expected to manage supplier performance, perform audits, drive corrective actions (SCARs), and collaborate with engineering to approve new parts, reducing defects and minimizing supply chain risks. The SQE conducts investigations into customer inquiries, issues, and grievances, gives technical expertise to team members and instructs them in company procedures, and writes quality control reports and educational material.

This position requires a blend of hands‑on technical expertise and systematic process thinking. You will work closely with supply chain, engineering, and production teams to ensure hardware is built to specification, on schedule, and within cost — from prototype through full‑rate production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with procurement and supply chain to qualify vendors, review supplier process documentation, and conduct supplier audits for critical components and assemblies.
  • Quality Management:
Managing incoming inspection plans, identifying defects, and implementing Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to address issues.
  • Generate and process nonconformance reports (NCRs), material review board (MRB) dispositions, and engineering dispositions.
  • Support internal and external audits (AS9100, ISO 9001, customer source inspections) and maintain manufacturing compliance documentation.
  • Support first article inspection (FAI) activities and coordinate with quality assurance on inspection hold points and sampling plans.
  • Supplier Development:
Guiding suppliers through technical advice and training to improve quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Manage bills of materials (BOMs), effectivity changes, and engineering change notice (ECN) implementation on the production floor.
  • Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing work instructions and work order routings for RF and electronic assemblies.
  • Define tooling, fixturing, and equipment requirements for new product introductions (NPI) and engineering change orders.
  • Maintain accurate as-built records, serialized unit histories, and traveler packages in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) and configuration management systems.
  • Ensure all manufacturing documentation is revision‑controlled and aligned with current engineering releases.
  • Ensure all hardware is built and inspected in accordance with IPC‑A‑610, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, J‑STD‑001, and applicable MIL‑STD workmanship standards.
  • Maintain ESD control procedures, FOD prevention programs, and cleanliness standards appropriate for defense‑grade hardware.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to reduce defect rates, cycle time, and cost.
  • Support obsolescence management and coordinate engineering for approved equivalent substitutions.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in quality assurance, manufacturing, supplier management along with manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or production support within aerospace, defense electronics, or satellite communications.
  • Demonstrated experience with RF/microwave hardware assembly, coaxial interconnect systems, or complex electronic chassis integration.
  • Working knowledge of IPC‑A‑610, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, J‑STD‑001, and ESD control (ANSI/ESD S20.20).
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and 3D assembly models.
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑461 (EMI/EMC), MIL‑STD‑810 (environmental),…
