As a Lead Power Electronics Engineer – Magnetics,
you will be responsible for magnetics design of power supply products for datacenter, industrial and telecommunication applications. You will own the magnetics from concept, simulation, test, qualification and release to mass production. Reporting to the R&D/ Senior Technical Manager, this position will be expected to demonstrate leadership globally.
- Lead high‑frequency magnetics design for AC/DC & DC/DC power supplies, focusing on power density, cost, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and mechanical teams to design magnetics that meet overall power supply performance requirements.
- Conduct simulations using ANSYS to provide multiple options at early stages of product design for trade‑off analysis.
- Work with suppliers to develop production‑grade magnetics by suggesting optimal options for cores, conductors, and insulators.
- Consult safety engineer to ensure magnetics design meets electrical safety standards.
- Develop laboratory prototypes and test them.
- Provide support to qualification team before launching mass production.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect intellectual property.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 7 years of hands‑on magnetics design experience, with a focus on power electronics applications.
- Solid knowledge of core materials, litz wires, foil and PCB winding technology.
- Experience using EM simulation tools such as ANSYS Maxwell.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics preferred.
- Experience designing magnetics for high‑frequency SiC / GaN power converters.
- Knowledge of UL and CE electrical safety requirements for magnetic components.
- Solid understanding of thermal, mechanical and packaging techniques and associated challenges related to magnetics.
- Circuit simulation experience (PLECS / PSPICE / SIMPLIS / SIMetrix).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to drive projects to completion.
