Position Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer with deep expertise in designing automation systems and machinery from concept through detailed design. This is a hands-on, in-person role based in Plano, TX, where you will be a key player in driving mechanical innovation for next-generation food automation systems. You will lead mechanical design efforts for custom machines and be heavily involved in prototyping, testing, and refining these systems in our on-site labs.

Key Responsibilities:

-Own and lead mechanical design for automation systems from initial concept through production-ready detailed design

-Design custom automated machinery and systems incorporating:

• Servo and stepper motors
• Sensors and robotic components

-Perform calculations and component selection for optimal system performance

-Work closely with electrical/control teams to ensure seamless system integration

-Ensure ergonomic, safe, and compliant mechanical design (FDA/NSF, ANSI/ISO familiarity a plus)

-Actively participate in prototyping, building, and testing physical systems in our lab environment

-Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and reliability

-Lead design reviews and mentor junior engineers as needed

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in automated machinery design, with 5+ years as a lead or sole mechanical designer
• Strong experience designing full systems independently, from scratch to final deliverables
• Proven expertise in motion control, electromechanical integration, and system-level machine design
• Familiarity with robotic systems, pick-and-place mechanisms, and automation subsystems
• Proficient in Solid Works (minimum 5 years of experience)
• Strong understanding of mechanical safety and ergonomics for automation
• Hands-on experience with prototyping, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with food processing or kitchen equipment design
• Knowledge of compliance standards such as FDA/NSF and ANSI/ISO
• Background in designing systems for food-safe environments
• Experience with sorting systems, automated conveyors, or pick-and-place applications
