The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area at SNC is a leader in ISR and aviation systems integration. The Senior Structural Engineer will work on the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) mission, modernizing and delivering the next‑generation SAOC aircraft.

Responsibilities
  • Familiarity with aircraft structural dynamics, specifically for engine attachment design and analysis.
  • Oversee subcontractor oversight and integration.
  • Manage schedules, interfaces, and handoffs across multiple stakeholders.
  • Apply expert knowledge of thermal and vibration effects and analysis on aircraft structures.
  • Lead and manage complex structural engineering projects.
  • Provide expert guidance on the design and analysis of metallic and composite structures.
  • Perform high‑level structural analysis and validation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster technical excellence.
  • Develop and review detailed technical documentation and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align structural engineering initiatives with business goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering or a related role.
  • Expert understanding of structural analysis and design principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of static and/or dynamic analyses.
  • Experience with computer‑aided engineering tools.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary design and development teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD in a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Recognized contributions to the field of structural engineering.
  • Experience in engineering simulation using finite element structural analysis (FEA) tools such as MSC Patran, Nastran, FEMAP, or ANSYS.
  • Experience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis utilizing tools such as NASGRO or AFGROW.
  • Ability to perform classical analysis using industry‑standard hand calculation methods.
  • Ability to author substantiation reports.
  • Background in the aerospace and defense industry.
  • Familiarity with FAA, NASA, and/or DoD design and construction regulations.
Essential Functions
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Ability to work in an office or hybrid environment.
  • Apply systematic and logical problem‑solving techniques to develop structural designs and analysis.
  • Clearly convey technical information, design specifications, and project updates to team members, stakeholders, and management.
  • Ability to understand technical documents, designs and test reports.
