Job Overview

Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full‑time Accounting Analyst at our Plano, TX location. The Accounting Analyst will be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of accounting entries, reports, and reconciliations, many of which utilize complex spreadsheets. The role involves assimilating data from various sources, updating spreadsheets, and using analytical thinking to determine accuracy.

Responsibilities
  • Perform financial statement variance analysis during the monthly close process in a time‑sensitive manner.
  • Assist in estimating the impact on financial statements of regulatory amendments, business model alterations, and software conversions.
  • Complete controlled processes to remit cash payments to third parties, including tax‑related entities and vendors.
  • Manage prepaid and/or accrued expenses and fixed‑asset depreciation processes.
  • Account for investment entries including premiums, amortizations, swap interest adjustments, cash collateral settlements, equity‑method investments, and derivative positions.
  • Manage recurring monthly entries such as lease accounting and cash accounting, reconciling variances to actual statements and recommending adjustments.
  • Account for inter‑company and affiliate payables and receivables.
  • Track invoice payments for capital expenditures and compare with departmental budgets; assist with research on reconciliation discrepancies and propose journal entries.
  • Process and review interest accrual entries for loans, deposits, and borrowings.
  • Maintain compliance with control environments to reduce the potential for misstatements.
  • Assist with annual audits and periodic regulatory exam requests.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer and bank information.
  • Maintain effective business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform the job in accordance with applicable industry laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting.
  • At least one year of accounting experience, preferably with a bank or similar financial institution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn company‑specific accounting and operations systems.
  • Ability to identify and investigate anomalies on financial reports.
  • Demonstrated independent work ethic and the ability to communicate conclusions to management.
  • Track record of improving operational efficiency or effectiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact with all levels of the organization and various departments.

Pay is dependent on knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and location.

Working Conditions

The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Employees may spend extended periods sitting or standing, using hands to operate computers or other equipment, and reaching for work‑related tasks. Regular walking may be required, along with occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or climbing. The role may involve lifting up to 10 pounds.

Vision requirements include near and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
