Rate and Compensation

The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Property Standards Inspector, Property Standards Specialist or the Senior Property Standards classification.

The target hourly rate for the Property Standards Inspector is between $25.21 - $31.51; depending on qualifications.

The target hourly rate for the Property Standards Specialist is between $26.47 - $33.09; depending on qualifications.

The target hourly rate for the Senior Property Standards Specialist is between $29.18 - $36.48; depending on qualifications.

Depending on qualifications and experience, candidates may be considered for the Property Standards Inspector, Property Standards Specialist, or Senior Property Standards Specialist classification. In this impactful role, you will work directly with residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to ensure compliance with City codes and ordinances while promoting safe, attractive, and well-maintained neighborhoods.

From conducting property inspections and educating the public on property maintenance standards to researching complex cases and supporting long-term neighborhood preservation efforts, this position offers the opportunity to make a visible difference throughout the community every day

Additional Information

Certifications and subsequent renewals are paid by the City of Plano. Staff are given opportunities to attend conferences outside of the state. Travel and expenses paid by the City.

Three (3) shifts available: 7:30 – 4:30, 8:00 – 5:00, and 8:30 – 5:30. New employees are required to work the trainer’s schedule during training. Coveted shifts are primarily offered to tenured staff first.

Required to work six Saturdays a year. Staff will flex their schedules during “Saturday Sweeps” week and work either a ½-day or a full day on Saturday.

Required to perform periodic after-hour inspections to observe violations that occur outside of normal business hours.

To ensure pay equity within the division, new employees are typically offered pay within the range of existing employees, with similar years of direct code experience and certifications.

While conducting investigations, there may be cases that require Property Standards to enter structures that may contain hazardous conditions resulting from unsanitary conditions and infestations. In addition, while in the field, one will have to employ communication skills to de‑escalate conflict in highly contentious and confrontational settings.

Property Standards recipient of the American Association of Code Enforcement 2018 Innovative Code Program.

Property Standards recipients of the Nation’s 1st Code Accreditation.
