The City of Murphy Police Department seeks to add a Code Compliance Officer to its dynamic team! As our Code Compliance Officer, under general supervision of the Administrative Police Sergeant, you will conduct proactive and complaint-driven physical inspections and identify and respond to complaints of code violations. Other duties may include public education activities, assisting the general public, providing administrative support, maintaining case documentation, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.

Schedule Commitment

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that may require working evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Work is performed in both office and field environments and may require exposure to adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, narrow passageways, construction sites, and other environmental hazards associated with code compliance activities.

Examples of Duties
  • Conducts proactive and reactive field inspections of residential, commercial, and public properties.
  • Enforces City codes and ordinances related to signs, zoning, property maintenance, and nuisances by conducting inspections, investigating violations, taking photographs, removing illegal signs, issuing notices and citations, and conducting follow-up investigations with impartiality and efficiency.
  • Responds in person and by telephone, email, written correspondence, or other forms of communication to requests for code interpretation and application from City staff, contractors, and property owners.
  • Receives and responds to citizen complaints, and referrals from other agencies and City staff.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records, compiles data and reports; maintains case files and documentation; utilizes information as evidence and provides witness testimony for prosecution in court cases; and prepares, processes, and issues notices or citations for violations of applicable…
