Sleep Lab Technologist

Work location: Texas Health Center for Diagnostics and Surgery, 6020 West Parker Road, Plano, Texas, 75093
Work hours: PRN, 6:00pm - 6:00am;
Weekend availability required

- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Successful completion of an acceptable polysomnography program of no less than one years duration associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technologist preferred
- One year in a Sleep Lab/Center preferably within a hospital setting preferred
- RPSGT
- Registered Polysomnographic Technician upon hire required and - BCLS
- Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly upon hire required Basic
- Be responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing testing and/or treatment and the use of equipment to minimize any hazards.
- Review patient's medical history, allergies, current medications, patient questionnaire.
- Explain procedures to patient before, during and after sleep study, to include pre-testing, testing and post-testing procedures.
- Perform patient set-up: attaches electrodes and monitors to patient according to accepted standards.
- Follow procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration, etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data. Monitor patient via video for any unusual sleep behaviors.
- Ensure signals are received on the computer and all monitors are recording data throughout the sleep study.
- Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free, making adjustments as necessary.
