Ready to gain hands‑on experience in municipal Human Resources? The City of Murphy is seeking a motivated Human Resources Intern to join our Human Resources Division for a four‑month internship focused on several projects that impact employees across the organization.
Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, this internship offers a unique opportunity to support strategic HR initiatives while gaining practical experience in compensation, job classification, compliance, HR technology, and records management.
Schedule CommitmentThis is a part‑time, in‑person position that works up to 20 hours per week.
This posting will expire on Thursday, August 13th at 5:00pm. The expected start date for the internship is Monday, August 31st.
What You’ll DoThroughout the 4‑month internship, you'll assist with 5 key Human Resources projects:
- Annual Personnel File Audit – Conduct a comprehensive audit of personnel files to verify required documentation, ensure compliance with records retention requirements, and identify missing or outdated employment records.
- Annual Total Compensation Statements – Create and distribute personalized total compensation statements highlighting the value of employee pay and benefits.
- Annual Job Classification Update – Review and update job classifications within the City's online recruitment software to ensure position information is accurate and current.
- Annual Compensation Study – Support the City's annual compensation study by gathering, analyzing, and organizing market data used to evaluate employee compensation.
- Annual Motor Vehicle Compliance Audit - Assist with the City's annual compliance audit for employees required to operate City vehicles by coordinating Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). drug and alcohol testing and conducting motor vehicle record reviews to ensure compliance with federal regulations and City policies.
- Practical experience in multiple areas of Human Resources.
- Exposure to public sector HR operations and processes.
- Mentorship and professional development under the guidance of the HR Manager.
- A supportive, professional, and engaging work environment that values learning & growth.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; HRIS experience preferred.
- Dependable, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
This position is part time and is not benefit eligible.
