Overview
The Network Monitoring and Automation Manager leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of network monitoring, observability, and automation capabilities. By utilizing contemporary monitoring platforms, automation frameworks, and insights derived from data, this role guarantees optimal network performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. The manager oversees a technical team focused on proactive detection, alerting, workflow automation, and integration between network systems and business operations.
This position is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is on-site.
- Own the enterprise network monitoring strategy, ensuring real time visibility into network health, performance, and capacity.
- Manage and optimize monitoring platforms (e.g., Solar Winds Orion, Occular
IP, Netbrain, etc.). - Define and tune alerting thresholds to reduce noise and increase actionable notifications.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and KPIs for leadership and operations teams.
- Implement synthetic tests, telemetry improvements, and root cause analysis workflows.
- Lead the creation of automation solutions for configuration management, incident response, and operational workflows.
- Develop API integrations between monitoring systems, ITSM tools, CMDB, and network infrastructure.
- Establish automated remediation playbooks and self-healing capabilities.
- Manage and mentor a team of network monitoring specialists and automation engineers.
- Partner with the Network Engineering and Network Operations teams to align monitoring and automation needs.
- Oversee training, documentation, and operational readiness for new monitoring or automation solutions.
- Ensure network availability meets or exceeds SLAs.
- Drive proactive identification of instability, capacity bottlenecks, and emerging risks.
- Lead efforts to reduce MTTR through automation, improved detection, and streamlined processes.
- 7+ years of experience in network engineering, network operations, or monitoring/observability roles.
- 3+ years of leadership or team lead experience.
- Strong expertise with enterprise monitoring tools (Solar Winds Orion preferred).
- Hands on experience with automation frameworks (Python, Ansible, etc.).
- Familiarity with APIs, event-driven automation, and integration workflows.
- Solid understanding of routing/Switching, fiber based systems, DWDM, and network protocols (BGP, OSPF, SNMP, Net Flow, etc.).
- Experience with processes and incident/problem/change workflows.
