As a VAS Network Operations Engineer, you will be performing daily data center operations‑based activities at one of Applogic Networks’ key accounts. You will use your excellent attention to detail and investigative skills to monitor, identify, and lead to resolution potential issues on a high availability production environment. Issues that are outside of your knowledge domain will be escalated to Applogic Networks’ customer support for further investigation while you play a key role in communicating status updates to the customer and scheduling further investigation activities as required until resolution.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with Customer Network Operations for deployment, maintenance, administration, and operational tasks.
- Diagnose Applogic Networks equipment failures.
- Recommend configuration changes and assist with implementations.
- General services as required include installation of software maintenance updates for all Applogic Networks devices and solutions.
- Initiate health monitoring of software/hardware issues, daily monitoring of system health, KPIs, logs, and alarms with a sense of urgency when issues arise.
- Work within customers’ change management and maintenance window guidelines.
- Analyze and troubleshoot critical application traffic and detect problems using essential software tools (traffic sniffers, simulators, traffic detection, MRTG, PRTG, SNMP polling, logs).
- Debug network issues using Wireshark, tcpdump, tcpreplay or similar tools.
- Lead the analysis/discussion with other departments to solve and prevent issues.
- Submit and escale issues into L2 support as needed.
- Accountability for case management and ensure that they are resolved.
- Provide consultative support and mentor other less experienced team members.
- Positive contribution towards quality reviews for other colleagues and peers.
- Function as the liaison and advocate between customer operations personnel and Applogic Networks customer support, including the Account Management team and engineering staff.
- Commanding knowledge of Unix‑based operating systems such as Linux, Ubuntu, etc.
- Proven experience with programming such as Python, Java, C/C++, or scripting languages such Bash.
- Proven experience of packet‑level debugging using Wireshark, tcpdump, tcpreplay or similar tools.
- Proven experience in virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM), deployment of Open Stack and experience with automation tools like Ansible.
- Excellent technical background with a strong understanding of networking (specifically IP related technologies).
- Good understanding of end‑to‑end network call flows, as well as relevant technologies and protocols (DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP, RADIUS, DIAMETER).
- Good understanding of cloud architecture (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), containers and orchestration concepts (Kubernetes, Swarm) and tools like Docker, Jenkins.
- Experience with SQL databases, network traffic monitoring, or firewall technologies – especially in a Telecom, ISP, or Cable Internet environment.
- Experience of data modelling, DB administration, Vertica, SQL/Postgre
SQL, ETL and/or BI in general (Micro Strategy, Tableau, Elastic Search, Kibana, Grafana). - Good understanding in virtual concepts like NUMA, SRIOV, PCI‑Passthrough, Virtio.
