Team Overview
• Team:
Network Application Services (NAS) - primarily a network team with application focus.
• Current size: 9 active members, soon to be 10 (new hire starting March 16th).
• Roles mix: existing crew + contractors; one contractor position open.
• Platforms supported:
o DNS (primary focus)
o F5 load balancer (GTM/LTM)
o Akamai content delivery
o IBMIDG (being decommissioned)

• Team history: DNS function historically underserved; previously only 2 engineers.
F5 Role (Architect / Strategic)
• Separate team from DNS, but some interaction via GTM layer integration.
• Environment: GTM (DNS layer), LTM (load balancing), complex F5 rules.
• Role is strategic, not primarily hands-on; hands-on required only during complex issues.
• Focus on long-term roadmap and architecture modernization.
• F5 is considered permanent in infrastructure; modernization will not remove F5 entirely.
• Existing engineers: 2, highly experienced.
Core Responsibilities
• Own and evolve the long-term F5 and load-balancing strategy
.
• Support both:
o GTM (DNS-adjacent global traffic management)
o LTM (application load balancing with complex iRules).
• Guide modernization efforts (reducing reliance on complex iRules where possible).
Technical Requirements
• Deep F5 expertise and architectural experience.
• Ability to operate at an enterprise scale.
• Hands-on engineering experience is expected historically, but:
o Day-to-day work is not primarily hands-on
.
o May step in during complex production issues.
• F5: experience with GTM/LTM, load balancing rules, architectural knowledge; strategic planning skills.
• Enterprise-level architecture experience desired.
• Ability to provide guidance and evaluate improvements across large-scale, complex environments.
• Strategic, governance-oriented perspective, not purely operational.
