Overview
Nelson Mullins, an AmLaw 100 Law Firm, are seeking a Desktop Engineer to support the IT team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for executing and maintaining best practices for desktop, laptop and VDI management including but not limited to software packaging, software deployment, patching, inventory management, compliance reporting, license auditing, technical documentation, image creation and workstation management. You’ll install, test, configure, implement, and document software applications that support all aspects of the firm’s operation.

This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining modern, cloud-based endpoint management and security solutions across the Firm’s Azure and Microsoft 365 ecosystem. The position leads the configuration and ongoing management of Microsoft Intune for device compliance, application deployment, configuration profiles, and security baselines, and oversees identity and access management using Entra , including conditional access, identity protection, authentication standards, and hybrid‑join configurations.
The role manages device provisioning through Autopilot; develops and maintains task sequences, software packaging, and VDI images; and administers MECM infrastructure. Responsibilities also include developing and supporting Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 environments, building automation using Power Shell and Graph API, and monitoring, maintaining, and supporting Windows 11, Microsoft 365 applications, Group Policy Objects (GPO), and Microsoft and third‑party security patching.
The role regularly collaborates with attorneys, supervisors, and staff across the Firm via phone, email, and in person, and may support special projects as needed. A strong working knowledge of the Firm’s technology environment and standard IT concepts, practices, and procedures is essential for success in this role.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s and/or relevant certifications, along with at least five years of related professional experience. This role requires strong practical and conceptual expertise within the discipline, with an understanding of best practices and how the function integrates across the firm. The successful candidate brings a problem‑solving mindset, applying sound judgment to complex issues and making decisions within established guidelines that impact operational and project outcomes.
This position operates with general supervision, leads small to mid‑sized initiatives, and contributes to continuous improvement efforts. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, including the ability to explain complex information, influence stakeholders, and work effectively across teams. The role also serves as a resource to less experienced colleagues by providing guidance and oversight as needed.
