Test Engineer

Job Description

A global telecommunications company is seeking a skilled Test Engineer to work on-site in Plano, TX.

Day-to-day responsibilities include working onsite in the home optical network (HON) test group. Duties include the integration and testing of home networking products in the Lightspeed solution. Working with a team of Test Engineers involved in all aspects of end-to-end solution validation of Lightspeed services (e.g., HSIA, cVoIP, Video). Testing activities include the development of a test plan, reviewing requirement documents, and documenting defects.

• Setting policy on Element Management System (syntax, flows, Access Control List) and testing through end-to-end
• An end-to-end production "like" solution in a lab with access gear and router rings
• Automation of existing test cases currently being executed manually
• Document all defects found during testing
• Participation in document reviews including Test Plans, MOPs, Epics, and User Stories
• Updating regression test cases

• Residential Gateway (RG) testing experience
• Understanding of VDSL or PON networks and ONTs
• Understanding of TR-069, TR-098 protocols
• Understanding of WAN, LAN, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and Firewalls
• Working knowledge of an application layer protocol (IPV4, IPV6, Dual-Stack)
• Working knowledge of SSH, telnet, SCP, and SFTP
• Working knowledge of routers and switches, proficient with Wireshark and tcpdump
• Working knowledge of ACS (Automatic Configuration Server) for remote management of end-user devices
• Hands‑on experience on any one of these traffic generators (Spirent Test Center, IXIA, Cobham TeraVM, Shenick diversifEye, Cyberflood, IPERv3)
• Knowledge of scripting language (Python)
• Linux applications for SoCs, Busy Box
• Experience with WINDOWS Operating Systems
• Basic security testing, IPChains, Firewall rules, scripting test cases, TR-181 Datamodel, TR98 Datamodel

• Develop test plans based on Epics, User Stories, and Requirements using Agile SAFe methodology
• Ability to prioritize, complete and execute a test plan in an AGILE environment

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Design
• Problem solver, quick learner, and excellent researcher
• Excellent communication skills - Experience creating automated test scripts with (Python, etc.)
• Robot Framework for Automation
• Experience with ATLASSIAN JIRA
• Zephyr Test case software
• Former experience working companies who create residential gateways (Arris, Pace, Cisco, Comm Scope, Capgemini)
• Broadband Standards such as TR-181, TR-232, and TR-104
• SOAPUI

• Possesses strong attention to detail in following tedious test steps and completing info fields in JIRA defect and test status.
• Proven ability to prioritize and complete a test plan in an AGILE environment
• Can work independently and OWN the basic troubleshooting of their test harness before engaging Lead Engineers for assistance
• A quick learner and excellent researcher
• Can share examples of past situations where proactive communication with Peers and Technical leadership helped to overcome an issue
• Proven ability to collaborate with other testers and provide training, willing to share knowledge and information
• Goes above expectations and provides quality above of what is asked, implements new practices to further increase quality, goes “outside” the box
