Position: Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Financial Services Legal Team (Hybrid)

Overview

As a Senior Counsel on the Financial Services Legal Team, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major challenges and significant business initiatives as a member of Capital One’s Financial Services (FS) Division. The FS Division is a leader in the auto finance and technology industries, delivering AI, machine learning, and other tech-enabled products and solutions. You will serve in a key role supporting and advising the business in pursuing innovative solutions for consumers, dealers, and partners.

As a member of the FS Legal Team, you will partner with a customer-centric business that is fueling the future of one of the nation’s largest indirect auto-finance companies. You will be a trusted counselor to the business, advising analysts, technologists, designers, and marketers across FS who design products and content central to Capital One’s brand.

This role involves identifying complex risks, solving problems, and shaping strategies that impact customers and internal partners. You will build innovative solutions and services, counsel the business on issues from consumer-finance laws and regulations to strategy, data, and risk, all within a collaborative environment. Responsibilities
  • Strategic advisory on technology and the auto finance business, including navigating evolving regulatory landscapes and rolling out, marketing, selling, and negotiating innovative products where no clear roadmap exists.
  • Translate legal concepts (e.g., data privacy, IP, antitrust, TILA/Reg Z, ECOA/Reg B, FCRA/Reg V, UDAAP) into business-friendly guidance; bridge between legal requirements and technology teams.
  • Provide business ownership by working hand-in-hand with the team to solve problems in flight and cultivate a learning mindset that focuses on impact beyond simply reciting statutes.
  • Collaborate across the Legal Department to vet and scale risk, fostering responsible innovation in gray areas and promoting intellectual curiosity with a practical, “we’ll figure out a way” attitude.
Basic Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 4 years of experience at a law firm, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience advising financial-services or technology companies
  • 3+ years of experience as an attorney on data, marketing, product development, or technology
  • Experience advising on regulatory compliance matters, including UDAAP, FCRA, GLBA, ECOA, and TILA
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and independently, make integrated decisions, and collaborate at all levels
  • Ability to handle ambiguous situations and complex concepts with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication with the ability to influence others
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Additional Information
  • This role is hybrid; associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on the job posting.

  • The salary range is location-specific and shown for Plano, TX: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel. Other locations follow local ranges.
  • The role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
