Job Title:
Data Center Decommissioning Technician (Day Shift)
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM Job Summary
We are seeking a Data Center Decommissioning Technician to support the removal and retirement of servers and network equipment within a production data center. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established processes, and experience working safely in a data center environment.
Responsibilities- Decommission servers, network devices, and related hardware from data center racks.
- Power down, unrack, and safely remove equipment using approved tools, including server lifts when required.
- Disconnect and remove network, power, and SAN cabling according to established standards.
- Identify, inventory, and document all equipment being decommissioned.
- Follow equipment and cable matrices (EPIF) to ensure accurate hardware removal.
- Manage and update work through a ticketing system.
- Work with customers to resolve issues and support decommissioning activities.
- Utilize DCIM tools to track assets and document work performed.
- Support maintenance windows, customer requests, and service interruptions while managing multiple priorities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and communicate project status clearly with customers and internal teams.
- Experience working in a data center environment.
- Experience decommissioning, installing, or supporting servers and network equipment.
- Ability to read and follow cable and equipment matrices (EPIF).
- Experience working with ticketing systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working from ladders and using server lift equipment safely.
- Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools is preferred.
