Sr. Data Scientist

Albertsons Companies is seeking a Lead Data Scientist – AI Native to define the technical roadmap for an AI‑native Data Science organization that supports supply‑chain and store‑execution optimization. The role is based in Pleasanton, CA.

• Define and implement the overarching data science and AI architecture and technical strategy for a team of data scientists.
• Hands‑on design, implementation, and deployment of AI models to integrate multiple point solutions into connected capabilities at scale.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI technologies.
• Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to enhance the data science architecture and continuously improve analytical capabilities.
• Build and scale AI‑native components: models, agents, and reasoning layers.
• Lead cross‑functional partnerships with product, engineering, and domain experts to deliver predictive and decision‑support solutions for supply‑chain and fulfillment functions.
• Recruit, build, and lead high‑performing data science teams, providing technical mentorship and guidance.
• Guide architectures, data science models, machine learning algorithms, and engineering best practices.
• Use machine learning and AI to solve real customer problems, powering next‑generation experiences for large‑scale real‑time applications.
• Prioritize projects, allocate resources, and drive meetings and discussions.
• Communicate sophisticated ML and modeling solutions effectively with intuitive visualizations for business stakeholders.

• Advanced degree in a STEM field (CS, DS, Engineering, Statistics, Math, etc.) preferred;
  PhD strongly preferred.
• 6+ years of industry experience with 4+ years in data science applications.
• Proven track record of leading data science projects and teams to architect and deploy solutions at scale.
• Experience in retail or grocery industry with supply‑chain optimization, merchandising, and analytics preferred.
• Product thinking and systems‑design expertise.
• Understanding of how planning and operations connect with customer‑related work from a data‑science perspective.
• Consulting experience and a service mindset.
• Comfortable interacting with scientists, engineers, product, and business leaders.
• Business acumen and retail understanding are critical.
• Strong communication skills to synthesize and explain complex problems.
• 5+ years of experience with Python and SQL.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience building data‑science solutions and production‑ready systems on big‑data platforms such as Snowflake, Spark, and Hadoop.
• 3+ years of experience with data engineering, MLOps, and model lifecycle management.

• Machine learning, Deep learning, Applied optimization, Operations research, Python, SQL.
• AI/machine‑learning tools (Databricks, Vertex AI, etc.).
• Systems design, cross‑functional analytics, data‑science team leadership.
• Cross‑functional relationship management and executive communication.

• Strong:
  Big‑data platforms (Snowflake, Spark, Hadoop), Data engineering, MLOps, Model lifecycle management, Experimental design, Strategic retail and grocery analytics expertise.
