Job Description
We are seeking a senior BI/Data Architect Consultant with strong hands‑on Power BI expertise to assess and guide the redesign of an existing KPI reporting model. This is not a dashboard development role; the focus is on data modeling, semantic model design, KPI calculation logic, business rules, relationship management, data quality, and validation. The consultant will work alongside the internal team to evaluate the current Power BI environment, identify risks such as duplicate records, relationship issues, and hardcoded logic, and recommend a scalable, maintainable architecture.
The ideal candidate will help design a reliable KPI framework that supports programs, project phases, services, vendors, metrics, and reporting periods while ensuring calculations are accurate, auditable, and easy to maintain. Responsibilities include reviewing source data structures, recommending improvements to reduce manual transformations, defining flexible business rules for KPI weights and SLAs, validating Power BI calculations against source data, and establishing audit controls to ensure transparency and data integrity.
The goal is to leave the organization with a sustainable reporting model that the internal team can confidently manage and evolve after the engagement ends.
- 8+ years of experience in BI, analytics, data modeling, or reporting solutions.
- 5+ years of hands‑on Power BI experience.
- Strong experience with Power BI semantic models, relationships, Power Query, DAX, and refresh behavior.
- Strong understanding of data grain, fact tables, dimension tables, bridge tables, mapping tables, lookup tables, and many‑to‑many relationship risks.
- Experience solving duplicated or multiplied record issues in Power BI.
- Experience designing KPI scorecards, operational performance reports, vendor scorecards, or executive reporting models.
- Experience translating business rules into maintainable calculation logic.
- Experience working with multiple operational sources such as Excel, SharePoint, Smartsheet, or similar tracker‑based sources.
- Experience validating Power BI calculations against source data or manual Excel calculations.
- Practical, hands‑on approach; must be able to guide implementation without over engineering.
- Experience with service/vendor/program‑based reporting models.
- Experience with projects that include phases or multiple levels of detail.
- Experience designing configurable rules tables for weights, thresholds, SLA logic, exceptions, or metric applicability.
- Experience creating audit pages, reconciliation files, or validation layers in Power BI.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, SQL, or Dataverse is a plus, but not required for the immediate scope.
