Data Governance / Data Retention Specialist
Duration: 12-Month Contract with possible extensions
Pay Rate: Up to $100/hour
Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Data Governance / Data Retention Specialist to support enterprise-wide data governance, records management, and regulatory compliance initiatives. This role is responsible for implementing and improving data retention strategies, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to remediate data retention gaps across enterprise applications.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Records Information Management (RIM),
Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), data lifecycle management, and enterprise data governance frameworks.
- Implement and manage enterprise data retention strategies aligned with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze application retention assessments and validate compliance with established data retention standards.
- Identify data retention gaps, compliance risks, and policy exceptions across enterprise systems.
- Partner with application owners, business stakeholders, legal, compliance, security, and IT teams to develop remediation plans.
- Support Records Information Management (RIM) and Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) initiatives across the organization.
- Monitor data lifecycle processes, including retention, archival, and disposition activities.
- Recommend improvements to enterprise data retention processes and governance practices.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, reports, and compliance evidence.
- Develop and maintain data governance documentation, retention schedules, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote data governance best practices and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience with Records Information Management (RIM).
- Strong experience with Records of Processing Activities (ROPA).
- Experience implementing enterprise data retention and data lifecycle management programs.
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and information governance best practices.
- Experience identifying compliance gaps and developing remediation strategies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple business functions.
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance, audits, or enterprise governance initiatives.
- Professional certifications such as:
- Information Governance Professional (IGP)
- Certified Information Professional (CIP)
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
- Data Governance & Stewardship Professional (DGSP)
- Experience working with enterprise records management or governance platforms.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations and enterprise data governance practices.
