The Cockroach DB Database Engineer will be a hands-on Engineer responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing Cockroach DB as an enterprise Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) on Linux platform.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and enforce engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices
- Build automation frameworks using Ansible, shell scripting, and infrastructure-as-code principles to enable scalable, repeatable deployments
- Design and implement self-service provisioning capabilities for application teams
- Ensure high availability, performance tuning, monitoring, failover, and disaster recovery capabilities
- Define and implement security, compliance, and governance controls aligned with enterprise policies
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation point for Cockroach DB-related issues
- Continuously improve platform reliability, efficiency, and developer experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Cockroach DB architecture and administration
- Deep understanding of distributed database systems (replication, consistency, consensus models)
- Strong shell scripting (Bash /Korn Shell) for automation and operational tooling
- Expertise in using AI Tools like Github Copilot or any other AI tools to write the code
- Experience with multi-region deployment architectures and high availability design
- Database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
- 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments
- Strong experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
- Experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
- Solid understanding of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
- Experience implementing security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills
- Familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration for database provisioning
- Experience in financial services or regulated environments
