Schedule: Sunday through Friday, 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Employment Type: Contract (40 hrs)
Position OverviewOur client is seeking a Layer 1 Data Center Technician to support their End-of-Support (EOS) team in a live data center environment. This position will focus on hardware decommissioning, chassis swaps, cabling identification, rack and stack activities, and maintaining accurate documentation of the data center environment. Candidates should be comfortable working independently in a live network environment and have the aptitude to learn applications and systems that interface with customers.
Key Responsibilities- Support End-of-Support (EOS) activities, including equipment identification and decommissioning.
- Perform end-of-life hardware removal and chassis swaps in a live network environment.
- Identify, trace, label, and document network and data center cabling.
- Conduct audits of the data center environment and equipment.
- Follow established procedures for hardware handling, cabling, documentation, and equipment removal.
- Work with Cisco networking equipment and related infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment, cabling, and infrastructure changes.
- Learn and support applications and systems that interface with customers.
- Provide professional and responsive customer service while working with internal teams and customers.
- Follow all data center safety, security, and operational procedures.
- 2+ years of experience in a data center, network operations, infrastructure, or similar technical environment.
- Previous experience working overnight/graveyard shifts
. - Hands-on experience with rack, stack, and cabling activities.
- Experience identifying and terminating network cables.
- Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment.
- Experience working in a data center environment.
- Understanding of LAN/WAN cabling and infrastructure.
- Ability to read and execute technical procedures and MOPs.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to safely handle and move data center equipment.
- Strong customer-service skills and a professional attitude.
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours.
- Willingness and ability to learn new applications, systems, and processes.
Candidates must be comfortable consistently working overnight hours in a data center environment.
