Senior Underwriting Manager, Liberty Mutual Mobility Solutions

Liberty Mutual Mobility Solutions (LMMS) is an underwriting practice focused on ride‑hailing, on‑demand delivery, and autonomous vehicle risks. As an LMMS Underwriting Manager, you will manage a team of underwriting professionals, overseeing renewals and new business in the sharing economy and new mobility sectors. You will lead risk assessment, coverage and pricing analysis, broker communication, and industry thought leadership, while maintaining a balanced, profitable book and protecting company assets.

• Leadership:
  Responsible for retention, acquisition, and development of senior level underwriting talent; formally manage, guide, mentor, and coach underwriters in technical and professional skills; foster an environment conducive to innovation, continuous improvement, and product development.
• Risk Selection:
  Develop and implement a strategy to evaluate risk quality and enhance underwriters’ skillset in qualifying, selecting, and assessing sharing‑economy and new‑mobility risks; may also underwrite complex accounts.
• Agent/Broker Relationships:
  Establish and maintain high‑level relationships with key Agents and Brokers; develop underwriters’ technical, negotiation, communication, and deal‑making skills.
• Portfolio Management:
  Evaluate portfolio performance based on profitability metrics, evolving risk scenarios, and industry trends; define team execution strategy and oversee continuous improvement.
• Quality Audit and Account Review:
  Collaborate with the LMMS SUO and OOU to ensure files meet regulatory requirements and internal standards; coach underwriters on decision keeping clear records.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training plus at least 6 years of progressive, responsible production underwriting experience; MBA preferred; CPCU designation preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures, and techniques, including coverage issues, product lines, pricing, and competitive landscape; preferred experience in commercial fleet and HNOA auto underwriting.
• Deep knowledge of the P&C industry, competitor intelligence, product pricing, financial drivers of profitability, and legislative & insurance regulations.
• Minimum two years of people‑management/supervisor experience; prior management experience within the insurance industry preferred.
• Strategic thinker, hands‑on contributor, expert on all products end to end with passion for results.
• Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, negotiation, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
• Self‑starter who actively seeks opportunities and challenges.
• Strong relationship, negotiation, influencing, and persuasive skills.

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full range reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow within the role. Some roles may include a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings.
