The Head of Legal will help manage all legal risks, ensures compliance with laws (like data privacy, IP), provides strategic advice to leadership, and oversees contract negotiation (client/vendor), litigation, and the internal legal team, focusing heavily on regulatory changes, technology contracts (SaaS, licensing), and intellectual property to protect the company's assets and operations.
Key Responsibilities- Contract Management:
Draft, review, and negotiate complex IT contracts (SOWs, MSAs, SaaS, licensing, NDAs) with clients and vendors, focusing on risk mitigation. - Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure adherence to data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA), cybersecurity regulations, and industry‑specific compliance standards. - Risk Management:
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks related to technology, data, employment, and business operations. - Intellectual Property (IP) Protection:
Oversee IP strategy, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets related to software and services. - Strategic Guidance:
Advise the executive team and board on legal implications of business decisions, M&A, and new market entries. - Litigation & Dispute Resolution:
Manage internal and external litigation, arbitrations, and regulatory investigations, working with outside counsel. - Legal Operations:
Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and internal training programs for staff. - External Counsel Management:
Select, manage, and oversee external law firms and vendors. - Stay Current:
Monitor evolving tech laws, IT regulations, and industry trends.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education:
Law Degree (J.D. or equivalent), licensed to practice law. - Experience:
Extensive experience (10+ years), significant in‑house counsel time, ideally in BPO, RCM, and healthcare companies. Knowledge and experience of working with healthcare companies or domain is mandatory. - Expertise:
Strong business acumen, deep understanding of commercial law, IP, data privacy, and tech contracts. Good understanding of HIPAA and related areas. - Leadership:
Proven ability to lead a legal team and influence senior stakeholders. - Tech Savvy:
Familiarity with legal tech (contract management software)
$200,000 - $250,000/year plus discretionary bonus depending on experience. This position is eligible for full health insurance including medical/dental/vision, PTO, and a 401k. Match!
