The Legal Intern will gain exposure to the practice of law within a public company legal department. Working alongside experienced attorneys, the intern will support a variety of legal matters, and observe how an in-house team advises the business, manages risk, and supports company operations. The role is intended to provide hands-on experience and practical insight into the work of in-house counsel in a public company environment.
Throughout the internship, potential areas of exposure include:- Litigation
– Assisting with dispute management and coordination with outside counsel. - Corporate Governance
– Supporting board and committee processes and entity management. - Strategic Business Initiatives
– Providing legal support on new products, partnerships, and company projects. - Employment Law
– Supporting workplace policies and employee relations matters. - Compliance and Government Relations
– Supporting compliance programs and regulatory and government relations matters.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program and having successfully completed the first or second year of law school
- Strong academic performance, with a preferred cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher
- Demonstrated interest in corporate law, compliance, litigation, employment law, consumer finance, or other relevant legal disciplines.
- Strong legal research, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents and correspondence.
- Proven leadership potential through academic achievement, internships, campus involvement, athletics, military service, or extracurricular activities.
Ability to work in our corporate headquarters in Plano, Texas throughout the entire ten-week summer intern program.
CompensationSummer Interns at Upbound Group are paid hourly in accordance with usual payroll procedures.
$23.00 per hour
