About the Role

The Director of Materials is responsible for purchasing, inventory management, receiving, storage, distribution of supplies and medical equipment.

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct and coordinate material management functions.
  • Manage purchasing, inventory management, receiving, storage, and distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain and manage the Purchase Order Log.
  • Review surgery schedules to identify any special orders, non-stock supplies or special equipment needed well in advance.
  • Adhere to processes for issuing supplies and proactively replenish stock to prevent stock out or shortages.
  • Maintain materials accountability systems to support the hospital.
  • Accountable for all medical supply/services spend and resultant financial results with respect to budget/forecasting/targets.
  • Research supplies to find possible cost savings and present findings to management teams to implement savings.
  • Accountable for direct reports and their productivity.
  • Accountable for building and maintaining relationships with peer department heads and administrative leadership teams.
  • Represent Supply Chain in various committees and meetings.
  • Oversee the physical inventory count.
  • Present inventory utilization, dollar spend, and supply chain operations on a quarterly basis and include in management operating reports.
  • Direct product conversion efforts.
  • Accountable for meeting Supply Chain measures of success related to spend/inventory/HR/customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of material flow, utilization analysis and supply chain optimization.
  • Charged to continually develop hospital identified savings prospects and exploit known opportunities.
  • Assist the Surgery Department in the coordination, implementation, and updates of physician preference cards.
  • Set clear goals and expectations; provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Develop talent through mentoring, training, and career development initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative and engaging work environment that aligns with company values.
  • Manage conflict and make timely decisions to maintain team focus and performance.
  • Conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings, performance reviews, and development conversations.
  • Approve timecards, schedules, time‑off requests, and other administrative HR functions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and safety regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree Business Administration preferred.
  • Associate Degree Business Administration required.
  • A minimum five year’s experience in a Materials Management supervisory capacity.
  • Proficient in personal computer operation and software applications.
