Job Details

The City of Plano Parks Department is hiring for the position of Park Maintenance Worker I or II.

This role is essential in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our parks and recreation areas. Responsibilities include pruning and trimming trees, removing brush and debris, assisting with concrete repairs, graffiti removal, and fence or equipment repairs such as dugouts and bleacher seats. Additional duties involve cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment, as well as operating equipment like dump trucks and flatbed trailers (excluding transport duties).

Regular and consistent attendance is vital to this position.

Summary of Duties

Under close supervision, the Parks Maintenance Worker I is responsible for providing assistance with routine maintenance, repair, and construction of facilities and landscaping for assigned area.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prunes and trims trees; removes brush and debris from assigned areas.
  • May assist in concrete repairs and projects.
  • May remove or paint over graffiti.
  • May repair fences, dug outs, and bleacher seats as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • May operate (but not transport) equipment such as dump truck and flatbed trailer to haul bobcats and other equipment.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge of: Routine construction, repair and landscape maintenance methods; tool and equipment operation and maintenance.

Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating vehicles, equipment and tools under supervision; following instructions.

Education: No formal education required.

Experience: One year of previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or construction preferred. Any work‑related experience yielding acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have a valid Driver's License. (Must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law).

Conditions of Employment

Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, parks, and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work (heavy to strenuous when assigned to Forestry) and around machines, and to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.

The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above‑mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance, repairs, and various daily tasks. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
