Lead Upfit Technician
North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is seeking a Lead Upfit Technician to perform specialized electronics installation and support for fleet vehicles and equipment across all NTTA departments. This role involves working on complex Roadside Safety Service (RSS) Trucks, work trucks, and zero‑turn radius lawn mowers. Responsibilities include aftermarket component installation, wiring harness fabrication, control module programming, and hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical upfit systems.
The technician will also troubleshoot and repair installed upfit equipment and may support general automotive maintenance tasks.
As an essential employee, the position requires attendance during emergencies or inclement weather and is a safety‑sensitive position.
$2,000 Retention Bonus.
Responsibilities- Complete vehicle and system repairs with professional quality non‑OEM installations.
- Fabricate wiring harnesses for aftermarket component installations.
- Understand OEM manufacturers' factory‑installed component functionality.
- Read multimeters and apply voltage, ohm, and amperage measurements to automotive and electronics applications.
- Interpret diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions to assemble upfit equipment that may be electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic.
- Schedule and supervise a team of technicians in the Supervisor's absence.
- Assist the section by answering the phone, providing information, performing maintenance, and completing paperwork, including prioritizing work, writing and assigning work orders.
- Program control modules for the various upfit equipment and accessories installed on NTTA vehicles.
- Meet upfit requirements by collecting historical data and evaluating non‑OEM components that best suit NTTA's needs.
- Maintain bench stock and part inventory, performing cycle counting, annual inventory, ordering, and receiving.
- Acquire upfit‑related parts and accessories by identifying vendors, working with departments, recommending purchases, and processing purchase orders and outsourcing of upfitting activities.
- Assist the Supervisor with project component layouts, electrical system design, and module programming.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in automotive technology or equivalent training and experience.
- 5–7 years of experience in automotive repair and vehicle systems diagnostics.
- Over 2 years of experience with electronics component upfit.
- Over 2 years of experience programming main electronics control units (ECU).
- Class “B” driver’s license at time of hire.
- Valid CDL “A” license, or ability to obtain a CDL “A” license within 12 months.
