Job SummaryManages the overall functions of the Purchasing department, including overseeing daily operations, price and contract negotiations with vendors and suppliers, managing the accurate and timely shipment of products, maintaining appropriate inventory levels to meet customer needs, responding to purchasing issues, and developing and fostering both internal and external relationships to ensure the smooth operations of the Purchasing department.
Responsibilities- Directs the purchasing team to meet product fulfillment, cost savings, inventory, and backorders in accordance with company, customer, and department goals and standards.
- Manages, monitors, and maintains product inventory levels to accommodate customer demand. Places purchase orders with vendors and suppliers ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of products and supplies to customers.
- Prepares RFQs and negotiates contracts, including pricing, contract and credit terms, rebates, and special promotions, ensuring the best possible price and service guarantee is received.
- Investigates new vendors, products, supplies, and services and makes recommendations to management to improve efficiency and reduce overall costs.
- Updates and maintains the Purchasing department's Standard Operating Procedures, as needed.
- Works with Customer Service, Sales, and Operations to resolve problems, address customer concerns, and answer customer inquiries to improve overall customer satisfaction.
- Develops and manages the Purchasing team by delegating duties and responsibilities, setting employee performance standards, tracking performance, recognizing employee efforts, providing guidance, support, and feedback, and delivering disciplinary actions when necessary. Interviews, hires, and conducts onboarding training for new hires.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or Accounting preferred.
- Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM) or Senior Professional in Supply Management (SPSM) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in wholesale purchasing and a minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
- Knowledge of wholesale distribution and manufacturing.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and email systems.
- Strong negotiation skills.
